Nestled in the northeast section of Owatonna, McKinley Elementary School provides a caring, safe, learning environment for about 575 children in grades K-5. The school was opened for classes on its present site in 1956 and several remodeling projects have resulted in an exceptional complex with access to large play areas, a new kitchen, and computer lab.

The Owatonna Junior High School consists of 775 students and 75 dedicated staff members. Seventh and Eighth graders are placed into interdisciplinary house teams comprised of Math, English, Global Studies, Physical Education, and Science. The students' schedule is complimented with a full array of courses including Industrial Technology, Art, Health, Communication, Reading, Family and Consumer Science, Spanish, Orchestra, Band, and Choir.
